Why

Why

A Poem by Donna
"

This is about abusive relationships.

"
Why did I stay
When I should of ran away
Your hands around my neck
Till I could barely breath
Why didn't I leave
You hit me in the head
I fell to the bed
All I could do was play dead
I knew I had to get away
Then everything will be okay
I walked away and never looked back
Now I know I'm on the right track

Its is a shame that men think that hitting a woman is right (WRONG!!!).. Sorry very touchy subject for me because when I was young I watched my mom go through it and I promised her at an early age that I would never hit a woman... I have lived up to that promise as well as I could... (I stepped out of it with an ex sister -in-law) she drew blood first literally and I don't think that is right either.. But I hate seeing a woman deal with this so it was an emotional write as well as emotional read.. Thank you for putting it out there...

Your welcome
Healthy relationships involve respect, trust, and consideration for the other person. Abusive relationships don’t have these qualities. Instead, they involve mistreatment, disrespect, intense jealousy, controlling behaviour, or physical violence. You have encapsulated the essence of this with your short poetic - well shared! I would suggest this edit to bring more intensity to the write; both visually and structurally :-)

The spacing is only a suggestion - hope you don't mind! :-)

Thank you Heather! I appreciate you reading it.☺
I'm glad you brave and wise enough to leave while the leaving was good.
I have two daughters and I know there is no way I would abide seeing
them in an abusive relationship.

Continue to take care of yourself. -----Dave

You are more than welcome -Donna.

Take care - Dave
It has a mix of negative and positive. Nice. Not just being abused by the abusive partner, but also telling the police (possibly) and moving away from him, “Now I know I’m on the right track...” It’s nice to have a mix of bad and good, and I like this poem.
