Protection over light

I've not felt the sun on my face,

for ages its been cold,

for ages i hid away,

yet,

at least i had warm sun in some hours,

though tucked away,

and now i have protection,

but it has cost a thing most dear,

I've lost all light,

the warmth that kept me close,

They said it was,

a fair trade,

they said it would be better,

well if this is truth,

than it is bitter,

if this is protection,

it hurts,

if i am safe so be it,

but i feel this direction,

its self destruction,

you can protect me from that,

but not myself,

i'm going to cut it loose,

release,

let that bit of warmth run down my wrist,

make up for the loss of sun,

the loss of light,

protection over light,

protection over warmth,

that is what has ruined me,

why don't you try,

protecting me from myself.
