A Poem by Donna DeLong Matthews aka Gold Pen Ghost

Still

The questions I ask
you said I have no right
It seems you have forgotten
I too have a ticket on this flight

My world willingly
I laid at your feet
My heart was yours
to feel each loving beat

Why it was not enough
only He and you can say
Yet the price is mine
in the end to pay

I believed your words of love
I believed we would stay
Yet here I stand alone
as you so easily lock me away

I wonder if you will think of me
when your Spring flowers bloom
It was this time out back
we were to be bride and groom.

The oh so many dreams...
our many times of cheer
all now seem to fade
and I'm left with but a tear.

How long did you think
you could push me away
until the pain was so great
I could no longer stay

In this time of trouble
if you'd just let me in
Our love would have grown
and the shared strength to begin

Here I sit with my companion of pain
that grips my heart with a killing chill.
Even after the pain and sea of tears
My love for you in my heart beats Still
