On the ground

Circumstance is a powerful guide.

On the Ground

 

“On the ground you wicked one”
they threw her down in front of him.

“Good teacher, tell what you would do
with ones like this… so full of sin?”

 

“Why bother me with little things.”
The teacher said “you have your law.”

“The book describes what you must do.”
Then on the ground, an ant he saw.

‘Who knows just what is right or wrong,’
so in the sand he drew a line.
The marching ant approached the pile
raised higher by the teachers sign.

 

His path now formed by circumstance,
the ant just turned another way.

With changes in this new terrain,
this line had caused a different day.

The teacher felt compassion grow…   

“Stand up woman, take my hand.”

And kneeling down to help her rise…

His finger furrowed through the sand.

The choices we choose to make will course our lives forever, by plotting our desires for change. I believe it is inherent in our hearts what is right and wrong, but weather we choose to listen to our heart is a different story. I really like the message of this piece.

The bible is never ending in teaching us how we should act. This one story in particular is a favorite of mine. I liked how you wrote and defined lines and how the teacher gracefully taught everyone about sin. I thought it was interesting that you put the ant in. I guess the smallest, yet still has meaninig. I enjoyed reading your work.
