A quote from Mark Twain

A quote from Mark Twain

A Story by Sean Allen
"

Just imagine if this connecticut writer had been a believer!

"

More than 50 years after his death, his family finally allowed, in the 1960's, publication of Mark Twain’s controversial work "Letters from the Earth."  The "Letters" were written a hundred years ago in 1909 by the greatest American writer.

At the beginning of the piece is this beautiful description of God's creation of the universe....

"He lifted His hand, and from it burst a fountain-spray of fire, a million stupendous suns, which clove the blackness and soared, away and away and away, diminishing in magnitude and intensity as they pierced the far frontiers of Space, until at last they were but as diamond nailheads sparkling under the domed vast roof of the universe."

What a very beautiful quote. I think the imagery is fantastic. I could not even imagine the thoughts of creation he must have had as a believer. I am assuming he was not a believer but this was a very wonderful description. One a person could truly apppreciate.

Wow! I always knew Mark Twain was an amazing author with a gift for vividly describing things so well it drew the reader into his story. This is an awesome account of creation which makes me feel like an eye witness. I've never seen this one before. Thank you so much for sharing it, my friend.

He had a mind more complex than most. The way he could deliver a vision was miraculous. He would make you taste water with what he wrote. I'm a huge fan of Mark Twain. Maybe it's because I'm right off the Mississippi River in St. Louis... (we have a statue of him coming out of the river).....

He's a very influential writer.... those serious about finding the depths of words should read his.

It is a wonderful text. This belief always has been, this or that. The doctrine of the creation of the universe by God is common to the monotheistic religions of judaism, Christianity and Islam; reflection on creation has been most extensively developed within the Christian tradition, but my belief is, when I say that the universe was created by a Large Hadron Collider a trillion times before and in endless loops matured to self-evolving intelligence and self-organizing intelligence.. it is then not less valid than the creation described in the bible or those hundreds and hundreds other theories of humans...for as a part of the box - we ne'er will know! One has to be outside of the box to see the truth, but I am not preaching, just commenting. And when they got this thing in Cern running, perhaps someone would be glad, I was wrong?
