Gisselle

Gisselle

A Poem by Don Schaeffer
"

the effect of dance on my life

"
Gisselle

.
Thank goodness there is still
this much joy in the world,
the fading grey world.

They throw themselves
into it, tilting their bodies
with each throw of their legs.

They care for their steps
and every knee shift is a gift.
They aspire to the sky

adding elaborations in their leaps
that pass in a texture, like loops
in a tapestry stretched over an eyeblink.

It passes so quickly
an evening with pretzels and cheese
leads right to sleep.

Caught my eye with my daughter's middle name, with a preconcieved notion I fell right into the trap and didn't discover I was in it until the end. Well done
