I'll Fly Away Now

I'll Fly Away Now

A Poem by Dominique Lambright
"

Stepping back from some things

"

Frustration sets in and encompasses the mind
No matter what happens the worm escapes me
I shift and dodge in flight; trying to avoid obstacles
But for some reason I get smacked with that lingering branch
…I'll fly away now

No me and you or you and I
Just wanted to forget it all for the time being
Step away from the headaches and nonsense
Wanted you to join me in bliss; away from the forest
…But I'll fly away now

There's a branch I keep coming to
Setting myself down; hoping to get comfortable again
Finding that thorns have grown in place of that smoothe surface
Wanting to pull out every single one and can't
…But I'll fly away now

And as I fly away I take a glance back
Realizing that it might be seasonal
Those thorns will fall out
My branch will be perched again
I just have to fly away for a little bit

The line "the worm escapes me" stands out from the beginning with a lot of power. I like the feel of the poem, the theme of wanting to leave all the craziness behind sometimes and just have peace flying free. That branch you keep coming to with the thorns also feels powerfully symbolic.
I'm so glad that last stanza was full of hope!

A lot of rain falling on that window at night... as ya sit and stare to the dark. Later in the gray it's a wet pillowcase...sheets showing the strain of hurting fingers. Ain't no "fly" to that ride. None at all

Often we just need to get away and catch our breath again. Take time to roam through the great maze of thoughts and figure out the correct path for ourselves.

This was a very thoughtful and I want to say tender... It felt very tender and gentle to me.

Beautiful expression. :)

Thank you. And exactly what i was trying to get at :)
sometimes we have to "fly away".....step off and re-evaluate and assess the situation, to see what it is really worth and to understand what we may be missing without it. when i was a teenager (i am an old hippie) i used to have a poster on my wall that read "if you love something, set it free. if it comes back to you it is yours. if it doesn't , it never was" i think this encapsulates perfectly what love truly means. i am very impressed with your writing talents. well penned!
