To Freyja (translation below)

To Freyja (translation below)

A Poem by 外人 (Gaijin)

Hope you like it :)

"
Freyja, filha de Nyjord,
Orgulho dos valentes Vanir,
Deusa da vida e da morte,
Escute as preces do teu fiel.

Escute os testemunhos
Dos teus servidores que
Ja fizeram-me visita:
Sou um guerreiro.

Enfrento a vida todos os dias,
Aceite-me, entao, no teu exercito,
Abra-me as portas de Folkvang,
Aos demais deixo a Valhala.

Mande as valquirias guiar-me a ti,
Com honra minha espada te servirà.

TRANSLATION

Freyja*, Nyjord's daughter,
Pride of the brave Wanes*,
Goddess of life and death,
Hear the prayers of your believer.

Hear the witnesses
Of your maids* that
Have already visited me:
I'm a warrior.

I face life everyday,
Let me join your army, then,
Open me the gates of Folkvang*,
I leave Valhalla for the others.

Make Valkyrs* lead me to you,
With honour my sword will serve you.

Freyja= she's the viking goddess of fertility, love (and sex), magic, war and death.
Wanes = according to the vikings, the wanes are one of the two divine families
Maids = cats are sacred to Freyja, lately some cats are always walking in my neighborhood
Folkvang = Freyja's house, that's where she hosts half of the warriors fallen in battle (the other half goes to Odin's Valhalla)
Valkyrs = Mythological women who choose who wins and who looses in battles and lead the fallen warriors to Valhalla (and I guess to Folkvang)

Well, I come from viking stock so I am automatically drawn to this piece. I know sometimes things are lost in translation but the English portion of this - it is right on the money. Reads true to its Norse patronage. Well done.

This better than coffee in the morning! Woo! Such energy and of course there's that devotion expressed here to the godess that you've captured perfectly. Good job!
