WarsA Chapter by Domenic Luciania story about a war.Fire shot up all around me, muffled booms as bombs exploded, and the quick zings as lasers shot past. I hopped over the wreckage of a station wagon with half its front end blown off. A man fell next to me, his breathing was impossibly rapid and his eyes darted every which way. I clenched the gun tighter in my hand. The sky was blackened with smoke, and the horizon was nothing but destruction. “What’s the situation?” I asked him. The man turned to me. He had grey hair and wrinkled skin, but his body was strong. He gave me a look that told me I didn’t want to know. “Can you take care of things here?” I asked him. “Well enough,” he said back, his voice was scratchy and weak. “Good, I’m in Trig right now, and I cannot afford to fail another test,” I told the man, who nodded in understanding. I closed my eyes, just as something grazed by my left bicep. I woke up sitting in a class room with teenagers my age. A teacher stood up front talking about syntax relations. I rubbed my eyes nervously and felt the burn mark on my arm that had not been there when I first entered the classroom ten minutes ago. © 2010 Domenic Luciani |
