- { CHAPTER 00: PROLOGUE } -
"The empty beginning"

'Forgive me for the screams that will ravage your heart...’

‘Let me show you an eternity of darkness...’

‘Bask in the light awhile you can... For I will soon devour you....’

I jolted out of my bed, gasping furiously as my heart pounded against my chest. I tried to steady my breathing as sweat ran down the side of my face. That voice, where was that voice coming from? Using my arm to block the sunlight as speckles of the afternoon sun from the drawn curtains entered the dimly lit hospital room. I squinted my eyes as it adjusted to the sudden brightness.

The white light was the first thing I saw, until the doctors lowered the curtains allowing my eyes to recoup. I blinked furiously, as though still being alive was hard for me to believe. My eyes moved along the dimly lit plain hospital room,

the structure was rather large, but it noticeably had only a few furnishing. Apart from the vase of bright yellow sunflowers on the nightstand, the room was dull sporting only primary colors like white, blue and grey.

“Ah, you’re awake.” A raspy voice came from the shadows, it was only then did I realize that a man sitting down next to me " holding my hand the entire time. He was seated at comfortably in the hospital chair, smartly dressed in a black suit and a slick back hairstyle. A pair of square framed glasses rested just above his nose bridge.

“What’s the matter, do you not recognize me?” Leaning in so I could see his face. He squeezed my hand and offered me a reassuring smile. Despite my astonished look, I felt a sense of familiarity and comfort from this strange peculiar man. Although he was a blur to me, I could still make out his shape. It wasn’t later that I became aware of the fact that my blurry vision was due to the fact that I was crying.

“No...” I whispered, shivering silently in my hospital gown. I squinted my eyes trying to get a better look of this strange mysterious man. My muscles were so tense, and I was so sore. But I managed to prop myself up against the hard hospital bed using my elbows. I stared intently at my two visitors, my large green eyes begging them to give me answers.

The doctor shifted in his position, “You’re currently in a hospital. You’re doing fine, but I need you to tell me if you can remember anything.”

“H " h -? hospital?” I spluttered uncontrollably, clutching on my bed spread tightly. “Wh -? what...?”

“Take your time,” he told me in a gentle reassuring tone, staring inventively in my eyes trying to pick up any sense of discomfort. “Do you not remember anything at all, what is your name?”

“Na-?, Na-?, Name...?” I didn’t know why I was stuttering at the point. Everything was a blur, I couldn’t recognize him nor do I have any memories of my own. I felt time stop for a moment, realizing the situation I was in. Who am I? Biting my lips, I gasped as an overwhelming sense of pain blurred my vision again. My head started to throb, as if someone was constantly applying pressure on my temples. Tears swelled around my eyes, I didn’t understand. I brought my legs to my chest and curdled up into a ball, I just simply didn’t understand. I couldn’t even answer the most basic question of who I was. Digging my nails into my legs, I winched in pain feeling my sharp nails penetrate my flesh.

“Calm yourself down, stop biting on your lips.” The man in the suit approached me, extending a large hand out to gently caress my face in an attempt to stop my teeth from sinking into my pale plump lips. His voice sound sorely abused, as if he had been screaming for the past hour. I turned my head away, refusing his gesture. Turning my back against him and facing the closed windows, I touched my lips feeling a sharp burn on them.

The doctor adjusted his glasses before nodding towards the man. “I need a word with you outside.” The mysterious man sighed heavily and frowned. He glanced softly at me before picking up his bags and following the doctor’s footstep to the corridor.

As soon as I heard the door slam shut behind me, I stared at my quivering hands.

Drip...

Drip...

Drip...

A red liquid dripped from my lips onto my fragile thin fingers, what is this? This smell, it’s intoxicating, almost alluring. A crimson hue was covering my fingers. I stared in astonishment at the liquid slowly dribbling down from my fingers to my palm leaving a red gruesome trail wherever it went. A haunted shadow engulfed my eyes as I watch the strange liquid flow silkily smooth on my diamond skin.

What is this....

Red... Crimson...

Bl...ood...?

My eyes widen before letting out a painful scream, echoing throughout the large room and piercing the still air in the empty hospital room.

The last thing I could remember was the sound of the doctors rushing into the room before I collapsed back into the side of the hospital bed. My eyes shutting tightly before I drifted once more into absolute lonely darkness.

What would you do when your fate is bound by blood? When your destiny is already decided for you even before your birth. Would you scream in agonizing pain, your piercing cries echoing throughout the still night air? Would you weep tears of despair and drown in your endless sorrows, knowing that there is nothing you could do to change it? Would you gradually accept the fact and succumbed to your fate, embracing who you are no matter what? Or, would you take a deep breath, shut your solemn eyes and do everything in your power to change your destiny?

There was a time where I thought I knew happiness, it was those kind of happiness that brought you into pits of never ending laughter, bolts of beautiful joyous smiles and butterfly that flew in your stomach. The ability to laugh freely, to smile and to love " even though I was not completely satisfied with what I had back then. As humans we desire, we crave, we want more. But now, I would exchange any day now for a day before it all started, because I know that for me to find that land of happiness I once had is not possible now. It's like waiting for the comet that was in the night sky, which passes the earth once in 17,000 years. No matter what lies ahead, the best time of my life was then and those times have gone forever.

Just like how wind changes it courses, sweeping up the dead leaves in the process " I was caught in a whirlwind, swept by the strong winds, but no matter how much I tried " I could never get out of the vicious prison. I was forced to stay trapped, and bounded by my chains.

No matter what lies ahead, the best time of my life was then and those times have gone forever.

All good things must come to an end.

And for me, it ended too soon.

“Perhaps one day you would look out through a frosty window on a beautiful but bitterly cold winter day, and you would remember me. And maybe...”

“You would hear my cries.”

“Hear me, as I try to change my fate. To break apart from my Scarlet Chains."
