Becoming meA Poem by Annabelle Lee
I can remember last year's prom
The theme was fire and Ice I've grown up a bit since then Been beaten down several times I've had my heart broken by someone Who didn't make any sense to me And then I had it stolen Everyone saw it coming I've decided something big And done a lot of small things Got in a lot of trouble Was a little less than friendly Made it to state Cross Country In placings we fell short We almost made the state tournament But choked up on that basketball court I've seen all my friends At the literal rock bottom And I've always stuck it out Because they know that I love 'em I've been stepped all over But I'm gonna tell you, I don't mind Because they know when they need me I'm here, every time I've taken the ACT Though I'm still awaiting my score I've been bloodied, battered, beaten And bitchy to the core But I've been kind when I can manage And caring when need be But most of all since then I've been becoming me So last night was my second prom And it was nothing like the last But in a way it was the same And it went by too fast I know this time next year I'll sound a lot the same But hopefully my story Will have a different name So I'll go on changing And being what I need to be Just sit back and watch As I'm becoming me!
