Cornrows on a white girl

Cornrows on a white girl

A Poem by Annabelle Lee
"

Yeah, just me bein stupid :p

"
Corn rows on a white girl
Who would have thought?
Not saying I'm tryna be thug
Not saying I'm not

I think they look cool
So dude, what's your beef
Cornrows on a white girl
It's pretty damn hot on me

Corn rows on a white girl
Say "Don't mess with me"
Make me look all tough
So you'll leave me be

Corn rows on a white girl
Say "I'm kinda insane"
Because of how tight they're braided
They're affecting my brain

Corn rows on a white girl
Say "I'll take you down"
Nothing to pull yourself up
When you're on the ground

Corn rows on a white girl
Don't mean a damn thing
It's just something new
For Annabelle Lee

Author's Note

Annabelle Lee
trying something new with my hair, they're not "real" cornrows since they only go about halfway back, but I got a few comments at weights so I figured I'd write about it

interesting. I actually had some cornrows back in the day.......way back in the day.......before
worry, wind, chemo, heredity, the jerry curl, two failed love affairs, too much salt and sugar,
the Detroit tigers baseball cap, sleeping standing on my head, rubbed it (rotted it) out.

I like this poem, for no other reason, than the image it conjures and the discussion it fosters.
good write,
dana

It's funny how a change can add dimensions to our personalities that I suspect were there all along.

This was an enjoyable read, I've seen white girls with corn rows, I didn't realize there was such a stigma attached. Seems to be a summer trend. Nice work.

if you wanna sport a head full of corn rows, that is your business. Bo Derek did it in the movie "10" and she looked damned hot! i think a woman's beauty is in her attitude and the way she carries herself anyway. hell yeh, girl! you go! great write!

Thanks, man!
I had no earthly idea having cornrows was something white girls had to explain, analyze, justify, whatever...Not for nothing but Bo Derek had them back in 1979 when she starred in the movie 10...Curious what it means these days...thug and gangsta? Really? Interesting, Annabell Lee...you always manage to teach this old dog something new. Thanks for sharing this!
