Sweatshirt

A Poem by Annabelle Lee

It's baggy and green
It covers everything
Nobody can see
Inside it is me
Nobody knows
What it doesn't show
Nobody tries
To see what it hides

Take it for what it is, don't go and assume
Because assuming makes and a*s out of both me and you

It's like a shield, or a suit, my own coat of arms
And when I'm hiding inside, I know I can't be harmed
Sleeves too long, hood too big
It makes me so small, almost magic

I've been covering up my stomach, my arms, my birthmark
Even though faults make you who you are
But today after I got home from my jog
I decided I'd come out and leave it on the doorknob

It's funny the many ways we hide ourselves. Baggy clothes often make us feel safe. I think most women have done this at some time of their lives.

I never leave the house without a jacket. It's like being bare to the world otherwise. I understand the message here.

haha yeahhhhhhh
Simply put, this is well done. An explanation of that piece of "armor", and the moment when it was safe to leave home without it... Great piece.

I love that author's note, made me laugh. I'm no good with numbers, either ;-) As for the piece, I liked it a lot. Too much good stuff to single one thing out in particular. Exceptional write.
