Box O Teens

Box O Teens

A Poem by Annabelle Lee

We aren't all rebels
We aren't all pregnant
Stop sticking us with your statistics
Don't chase us with your surveys
Let us be ourselves
And stop trying to put us
In your little box
And put your little label on it
We are ALL different
You can't change who we are
We make mistakes
And you use those mistakes
To tell us how good
We aren't
But you stil have yet
To look ins the mirror
And see
Just how much good
You aren't doing
Telling us to stop
Only makes us want to do it more
So in that way maybe
We are all rebels
But we don't all do drugs
We don't all get drunk
We don't all slam our doors
So you don't have any right
To act toward us
The way you do
Every step you think you're making
Only sends us farther away
Trying to avoid you
And your box
And your labels

Parents can't help but worry- it feels like suffocation- but there really is a lot of bad out there. It's not that they don't trust their children, they just know that the world is not necessarily a friendly place. Unfortunately the statistics support their worries. We are individuals but we are also a part of a whole and we can't escape being jumbled together sometimes. I think all groups, ethnic, gender based, professions, etc. feel the burn of numbers. One of my favorite sayings however is, statistics means never having to say you're certain. : )

Oh my gosh! I really absolutely love this poem. It has soo much meaning and I grabbed a lot of tension that you had built up about grown-ups labeling all teenagers doing wrong things. See, you're right. We're all unique and not into the same things. Just some teenagers gives the rest of them a bad name before even meeting them. Personally I don't do drugs, smoke, cut, have sex. I think someone's more of a rebel whenever they go against whatever everyone else is doing. So technically I'm a "good" rebel! ;) Haha! Proud of it too. I love the message, Annabelle Lee.

"We are all rebels

We don't all get drunk
We don't all slam our doors"----Completely loved these lines!!

Your Welcome!
Wow, I LOVED this, it really speaks volumes. I can relate to every single line, because I'm absolutely nothing like other girls my age. I'm actually doing the right things in my life, and I guess that's just so hard for people to understand. This poem was awesome, you put a really bright light on the truth, great job!!!
