We aren't all rebels
We aren't all pregnant
Stop sticking us with your statistics
Don't chase us with your surveys
Let us be ourselves
And stop trying to put us
In your little box
And put your little label on it
We are ALL different
You can't change who we are
We make mistakes
And you use those mistakes
To tell us how good
We aren't
But you stil have yet
To look ins the mirror
And see
Just how much good
You aren't doing
Telling us to stop
Only makes us want to do it more
So in that way maybe
We are all rebels
But we don't all do drugs
We don't all get drunk
We don't all slam our doors
So you don't have any right
To act toward us
The way you do
Every step you think you're making
Only sends us farther away
Trying to avoid you
And your box
And your labels
Parents can't help but worry- it feels like suffocation- but there really is a lot of bad out there. It's not that they don't trust their children, they just know that the world is not necessarily a friendly place. Unfortunately the statistics support their worries. We are individuals but we are also a part of a whole and we can't escape being jumbled together sometimes. I think all groups, ethnic, gender based, professions, etc. feel the burn of numbers. One of my favorite sayings however is, statistics means never having to say you're certain. : )

I can totally relate to this, you know sometimes too much care is suffocating, that it felt your freedom is cage in or box in... but that deosn't meant we just ignore it... i guess we just have to understand our parents ways of care and let them understand what we felt in their tight care as well in a very civilize manner :)...i see your a good person who makes good choices so i think they will understand you perfectly. Great expressed thoughts my friend.

I love the strong rebellious tone and message in this poem. I know I didn't do any of those things when I was a teenager either. I don't have a baby's mama that I have pregnant somewhere and I don't really drink that much and I have never really smoked or did drugs. In high school I was on the honor roll and in the marching band instead of running around acting crazy.

Not only teenagers are going buckwild and acting crazy and there are still some good honest kids that just need a little bit of extra guidance. But I am proud that you don't live within that box or anyone else's box for that matter.
Don't blame us, it's in our contract as parents, we have to pick on teenagers. ;-P That said...yes, you are right, not all teens are alike, but that's the age a lot of experimenting is going on, we know, we did it already way before you even thought of it. You're entitled to your rant here, just know most of the time, we're looking out for your a*s. ;-)

This is not something that is unique to teens. Stereotyping has been around for a looooong time, and it happens to every group, race, sex, creed and religion. But I like how you have expressed your ideas here.
Hello everyone
I am Annabelle Lee. I am FINALLY, after June 12, the ripe old age of fifteen. I'm a poet. I want to write novels, as well, but those do not belong on this site in hopes that someday .. more..
