Think it over

Think it over

A Poem by Annabelle Lee
"

not really a poem but i needed to say a few things

"
A person will get paid more for defending their end zone than they will for defending their country
You will get paid one million dollars to go live on an island the exact same way people from other countries have lived for years
Teachers show us how to figure things out for ourselves and teach us necessary life skills
Singers show skin and teach us its cool to drink and do drugs
Parents act like nothing is wrong while facing bankruptcy and keep us from harm
Entertainers act like someone they're not and keep us from productivity
In my town, the EMTs get paid nothing for saving lives
But miley cyrus gets a million for helping you save on clothing
Illegal immigrants can live for free and war veterans live on the street
Ballots are printed in at least twenty languages. you have to speak english to be a citizen. only citizens can vote
I cant be the only one realizing these things.

I disagree with you Annabelle, for in my opinion, what you have written is very poetic. We are living in very dysfunctional times and no you are not the only one realizing these things. The masses are becoming more and more wary of the powers that be, yet apathy persists and is fuelled by entertainment to keep us distracted. What no one wants to admit or accept (in my opinion) is the reality that our current path of ever increasing consumption is failing and will ultimately collapse.
The powers that be would rather have us worship entertainers then real heroes and so entertainers get far more press time and money then do heroes. They fear that heroes could motivate change. Entertainers keep us distracted.
Excellent message Annabelle, one I believe needs a far greater share of the spotlight.

I agree! The question is, how nasty is this change going to be?

i guess it lines on the prose-poem category my friend...
and what i see you are very observant on situation around you...
its like you've done a reality check....
and you've conveyed it through a poem, relating the message people tend to forget or didn't mind...

a very well expressed thoughts...
another admirable work my friend...

Well, this may not be in "poetic form" but there is no reason why it could not be. You have many thoughts and ideas here on the injustices of the modern world, many of them valid and of great concern to others. Go with it.....

And it's patriotic to vote even though your vote doesn't count. I love political message works and you have brought into focus an impressive group of contradictions that unfortuantely have become part of the social fabric. You should protest in this form and any other and there will always be those like me who read it and agree and appreciate your talent and concern.
