Something to RememberA Poem by Annabelle LeeFor My Papa
People have no idea
What it's like They didn't go through It with us But Dad, I know, That every inch of the pain we felt Was tenfold for you I can't imagine What It was like I understood You had to leave But I was what, four? I didn't yet understand why I couldn't see just how much A bit of land Or a minor disagreement Could ever have made such a change Could be such a big deal But I guess you did, Must have meant something to you And for that reason, And that reason only It means something to me I won't pretend I understand Cause Dad, I barely know But I will be one person To let you know you didn't go through it alone Dad I'm proud, Of you Not just for what you did for our country But what you went through When you got home What you went through So you could keep us And I know I'll drive you crazy And Dad, you're sure to return the favor But Papa, I love you And that's something to remember
