October

October

A Story by Meaghan M

October is a deceptive month, flaunting its vibrant colors and smells while masking the death-like slumber it brings upon the earth. Leaves hide their green bodies with shaded masks of browns, oranges, reds, and yellows as they break free from their wooden prisons. The smells of pumpkin spice, vanilla, and cinamon are tossed about be a strengthening wind that has had its fill with its calm summer state. The ground becomes hard and coarse, but the air above it distracts the wandering mind with a rich sense of peace that ceases more power with every breath. Fading echoes of life are cloaked by the deluding sweet songs of slumber. The mask is pulled down and the world is fooled. As the rushing world coasts to a slow crawl and awaits its stop, the October haze mesmerizes all with the illusions of tranquil change, and a time of diguse. A time when the world may be something else it never gets to be. The harvest moon glides across the dark sky, and the world slips into sleep without notice.
