Awe

Awe

A Poem by Destiny
"

Dedicated to my daughter

"

The remnants of you
Are everywhere I look
The crayon on my car door
The etching in my nightstand
The items left in peculiar places
Tonight it's corn kernels in your rug

You pick up fabric
And ask me who gave it to you
Into the air as if they can hear,
You say, "thank you" from your heart
While I hide the complicated emotions
Of adults who complicate emotions

But nothing is complicated about your gratitude
Nothing is complicated about my awe of you

You pick up on my smile
Bits of moisture pooling in my eyes
"Who gave it to you?"

You my love, always you.
