An old world afternoonA Poem by Oswald Chesterfield CobblepotJust a little thing I thought up when thinking about how things used to be. The sun is shining bright in the sky at the park Taking a stroll through an old world afternoon Couples walk hand in hand, humming a happy tune Dogs wag their tails with a happy bark I smell the scent of fresh Lilac and Pie in the air Who knew such a lovely day would soon turn to chaos The very existence of man will criss-cross But for now, people walk through life without a care The sun starts to set and the smells of Charcoal and steak drift across the hills I hear records crackle and pop through the old world houses The girls walk with their men, wearing beautiful blouses Who knew someone could be this high without coke or pills Lights from the midway flash with a bright red and purple Cotton candy and popcorn is the midnight snack tonight The Ferris wheel reaches over the clouds in an enormous height What a fine way to spend a day in April
