Prologue: Amanda and Cameron

Prologue: Amanda and Cameron

A Chapter by Some Random Person.

Amanda Stewart walked down the loosely paved town alleyways as she went towards the old court house for the ceremony. Amanda was finally seventeen, and today was the day that she would find her mate. In Crochettville, Texas, a hidden werewolf township stuck in the middle ages, every year, on April first, there was a ceremony where the town comes to the courthouse to watch as all of the seventeen year olds found their mates. Every year, this ceremony was held. Almost always, the girls would find their mates. Amanda, unlike most of the girls, weren’t looking forward to the ceremony. She was kind of being forced into the ceremony, and already had a boyfriend, Cameron.

“Hey! Amanda!” Cameron shouted behind her. Amanda let out a sigh, and turned around, facing her boyfriend.

“What, Cam?” Amanda asked. Cameron extended his hand to touch Amanda’s.  As they looked in each other’s eyes, fear and dread filled Cameron’s.

“Not us, then?” Amanda asked. Cameron shook his head.

“I thought for sure that we were mates. This doesn’t make since!” Cameron replied.

“Well maybe we are, Cam, maybe we just have to go to the Courthouse to find out?” Amanda asked.

“No. We’re not mates, Aman.  But if you’re not, then who is?” Cameron asked.

“Better yet, who’s mine?" Amanda said more to herself then to Cameron.

On the walk to the courthouse was filled with awkward silence between Cameron and Amanda. Both didn’t know what to say to each other, both were sad that they weren’t mates, and both concerned about who were their mates.

Amanda didn’t care one way or the other, or at least, that’s what she was telling herself. The truth was that every wolf cared. Amanda was having trouble thinking about mates and the whole process and everything with it. Why couldn’t things be simpler and have Cam be my mate? She kept asking herself over and over again.

Cameron on the other hand, was more and more concerned and worried that his mate was human. Every once in a while, mates were human and werewolf. This didn’t happen too often, but when it did, the werewolf was sentenced to death.

Finally, at the steps to the courthouse, Amanda entered, not sure of what was about to happen.  Cameron stood outside and looked around to see if he could find his mate.

No one knew what was about to happen. No one ever knows what happens in this town. No one can know.
