UnsinkableA Poem by Ralph Proenza (Docralph)A honeymoon cruise ends in tragedy -- all the hopes and dreams dashed in one event. We purchased passage for our wedding day Because together we would always stay. It took all our money and all from gifts, too. They were third-class tickets, that’s all we could do.
We were as happy as happy can be Until that day far out to sea When there was a deep and awful rumble That caused all our few things to tussle and tumble.
All we could hear was the crying and screams That signaled the end to all of our dreams. The riot of people all trying to get out As the ship moved sharply and tossed us about.
But the gate at the end of our hallway was locked. People were trapped there where they had all flocked. The signs had all read, “This Ship Is Unsinkable” But now our salvation was completely unthinkable.
Back to our stateroom we went hand in hand As we heard distant music from the musical band. It continued to play despite all the din To something angelic the tune was akin.
My bride and myself just held to each other My choice to die with could not be another. The cold sea now came flooding into our room The time was at hand, the time of our doom.
We held on so tightly, our final embrace As I looked on her young and so beautiful face. Our lips locked together in a long searing kiss To seal this, our union, in eternal bliss. § § § §
