Teens, AbandonedA Poem by Ralph Proenza (Docralph)A car accident leaves two teens orphaned, bitter, and feeling abandoned.Teens, Abandoned By Ralph Proenza
After the accident that took you away, And left us so broken and bitter and mad. We sat in our sadness and pondered ‘the why?’ How could you leave us, teens, and abandoned, Me and Cathy, simply like that?
Two kids, all alone without any parents To fend for ourselves, without any future. No one to watch my really cool ballgame Or Cathy’s recital at the ballet dance.
Our old house was there, back home, as we left it, But the Rec Room was empty of laughter and love. No giggles or chuckles from old corny jokes Would echo off walls as they had done so before.
But there on the walls -- they were totally plastered With Family Photos of parties and fun. Many vacations and beaches and smiles Spoke of the love shared by one and by all.
Then all the memories of the love we had shared Came rushing back at us, to invade our dark sadness. A jerk I had been, thinking abandoned. You didn’t just CHOOSE to depart as you had!
Now at the gravesite, we thank you so much Dear parents, whom, I'm sure, we’ll see once again In some distant future, after our time here is done. For all the good memories and the love you left us.
The goodness you instilled in us, day and by day, A gift we will carry, next to our hearts Now and for always. Goodbye, Mom and Dad.
