I Have This Hope

I Have This Hope

A Poem by Dave "Doc" Rogers

I Have This Hope

For my life,

I have this hope.

Having put my hand to the plow,

I cannot let go.

Having put my hand to the plow,

I must push on.

Having put my hand to the plow,

I must see it through.

As the day progresses,

I cannot let go.

As the day progresses,

I must push on.

As the day progresses,

I must see it through.

Days become months become years,

I cannot let go.

Days become months become years,

I must push on.

Days become months become years,

I must see it through.

For the end of my life,

I have hope.

At every step,

He is with me.

At every heartbreak,

He is with me.

At every loss,

He is with me.

Some days I sing.

Others, I just push the plow.

Take up His yoke, He said.

His burden is light.

Having put my hand to the plow,

He is with me.

As the day progresses,

He is with me.

Days become months become years,

He is with me.

For the end of my life,

I have hope.

A promise given,

He cannot let go.

A promise given,

He must push on.

A promise given,

He must see it through.

A price for iniquity,

He cannot let go.

A price for iniquity,

He must push on.

A price for iniquity,

He must see it through.

Just punishment paid,

He cannot let go.

Just punishment paid,

He must push on.

Just punishment paid,

He must see it through.

A promise given,

He saw my need.

A price for iniquity,

He saw my need.

A just punishment for iniquity,

He saw my need.

As I find my way,

He is with me.

As I curse the darkness,

He is with me.

As I lose my way,

He is with me.

Some days I sing.

Others, I just push the plow.

The sun rises.

The sun sets.

I put my hand to the plow,

As I said I would.

I put my hand to the plow,

I will not let go.

I put my hand to the plow,

A promise given.

I put my hand to the plow,

A hard way is broken,

I put my hand to the plow,

Seeds are planted.

I put my hand to the plow,

Something grows.

I put my hand to the plow,

A harvest is given.

I put my hand to the plow,

Someone is fed.

I put my hand to the plow,

I have impact.

The sun rises, the sun sets.

I put my hand to the plow.

I will not let go.

While in my life,

I have hope.

I have this hope,

Strength everyday.

I have this hope,

My need is met.

I have this hope,

I am a difference.

I have this hope,

Christ is King.

I have this hope,

God is Lord of All.

I have this hope,

He knows my name.

I have this hope,

His kingdom comes.

I have this hope,

I am not found ashamed.

I have this hope,

All was not in vain.

I have this hope,

He knows my name.
