Today I See...

Today I See...

A Poem by Dave "Doc" Rogers
"

Venom poetry actually delivered, circa 1989.

"

Today, I see, that love can only be

As water in my hand, sifting slowly like hourglass sand.

Try as I may, love is only today.

To clinch it, to hold it makes it go away.

So, how does one remain as was?

Today, you be that love you see.

And, if tomorrow you wake to sorrow,

Remember this, love is never held

Only borrowed.

This sort of reminds me of 'teenage romance'; love that only lasts a few days...

Anyways, I really like this poem. Your simile in the second verse helped me understand it immediately and I am grateful for that: Gotta love figurative language. lol

The concept and lonely tone I feel through this seem incredibly authentic... which, now that I think about it, must have spawned through a bad time, judging from your footnote.

"It won't change."... I beg to differ; it all depends on your view. As much as I hate to get religious on you, God always shines light, even in the darkest of times.

Ironically Yours, Blade and Blood

So true. But it is worth reaching for just the same. Kudos.

I am sorry to hear you feel this won't change. But very moving and vivid words in such a succinct write. I believe many of us can empathize with the everchanging, every elusive nature of love. A well written piece. It moves me certainly. Thank you.
