Fame

Fame

A Poem by Dave "Doc" Rogers
"

Fame... I keep hearing David Bowie's tune in my head.

"

Fame

I am a youth
I see you there
Flashing lights, glowing comments
People calling your name
“This way, this way, oh please!”

I am a youth
I see your life
Everyone loves you
People wear your name
Creating alters for your image like a god

Shouts from those that want to be you
Shouts from those that want to be near you
Shouts from those that want to love you
Shouts from those that worship you
Shouts from those that pray in your name

I traded a script that was given me for one of my own choosing

I am a little older
I am walking paths you once did
Some people love me, others hate me
Some people know who I am
Some people ask for the blessing, I sign my name

I am a little older
I see my life
Every night a new place
People buying icons of my name
Taking home to alters their latest god

Shouts by me to be heard above the rest
Shouts by me to be nearest the best
Shouts by me to be in demand, wanted
Shouts by me to be worshipped as a god
Shouts by me to be to hear the prayers

I have made it
You have seen me here
Living in the midst of flashing lights and comments
People calling out my name
“This way, this way, oh please!”

I have made it
You see my life
Everyone cries out their love to me
People wear my name
Creating alters for my image, I am their god

Shouts from those that want to be me
Shouts from those that want to be near me
Shouts from those that want to love me
Shouts from those that worship me
Shouts from those that pray in my name

I am here
No one sees me
Lost in the midst of flashing lights and comments
People calling to their god
“This way, this way, oh please!”

I am here
You remember my life
Everyone cried out their love for you
People wore your name
Destroying alters made in your image, no longer their god

Shouts that were for you are now for me
Shouts that were for you now want to be near me
Shouts that were for you now want to love me
Shouts that were for you now worship me
Shouts that were for you now pray in my name

I am you
No one sees me
No flashes of light, only rare comments
People have forgotten their god for the new
“Excuse me, sir. Could you get out of the shot?”

I see you
I remember your life
Only now, everyone cries out their love for you
Only now, people wear your name
New alters have risen, a new idol worshipped, a new god made

Shouts that were for me are now for yours
Shouts that were for me now want to be near you
Shouts that were for me now want to love you
Shouts that were for me now worship you
Shouts that were for me now pray in your name

I am old
I see no one
Flashes of light only garner comments, epithets
Gone is their god in dusts of memory
“Excuse me, sir. Could you get out way!?!”

I don’t care to see you
I don’t care to remember your life
I don’t care to hear everyone cry out at all
I don’t care for people who wear names
I tear down alters that have made, no new idols worshipped, no new gods made

Shouts that were for me are now memory
Shouts that were for me now want some meaning
Shouts that were for me now want to be loved
Shouts that were for me now worship themselves
Shouts that were for me now pray in no names I know

I pray for a script that was given me instead of one of my own choosing

Hi Doc..
I like this alot. It should be mandatory reading for people on the bottom shelf, and those on the top shelf. I think you make good use of your repetative verses. I'm impressed. Have you been writing a long time? Thanks for allowing me to read your work. Rain

This is a very sobering work. I hope JK Rowlings gets to read it. I really appreciate your views on life and the effects it has on everyone. We really are connected whether we like it or not. Thank you.

This was really a great read and oh so true. You need to send copies of this to Paris Hilton and all those other sad girls we hear about on the news.

Again you use structure wonderfully and in no way does it take away from the impact of your message.

Great work.

This is a powerful read, I loved it, it's haunting. I think that any celebrity, or bottom of the jean pool person could relate relate to this one. The use od repetition is a powerful thing, especiallly when you use it to the extent that you did. You really drill it in to the reader, it's as if you are torturing them with your words Doc!

incredible insight in this one. It really happens like this to most of them....a few moments in the light and then its gone. I liked the repetition and the structure of this one. Tightly and neatly written.

So true and a wonderful read. The idea that we as people give famous people the right to act and do the things that they do just because they think they are somebody special. It really upsets me to think about how they are able to get out of life just by have famous name or money.

Wonderful Read!!!!

Somehow this sounds like my destiny. NO! Not the glamour part.
Fame...such a strange lover as u described.
It seems like you gave me the revelation after the big match which am being redead for.
Once again thank you for giving me a chance to read this piece .,
I am shelfing it in my favourite. I love this piece. One among the best from you.

wow,i just loved this so much. it made me think of all those big name actors out there. and how they feel like they are above man and God because they have wealth and fame. i guess that is why it will be easier for them to pass thru the eye of a needle then to make to Heaven in the end. because they are without need, and only worship their burning star and the all mighty dollar. this is such an awesome write.

This is very powerful.

And how true it is that fame is such a fickle, fleeting being.
During his days of glory, everyone wants a piece of him. Yet, he gets tossed out of the way once his prime is over.

This is very good. Thanks for sharing!
