Jaded

Jaded

A Poem by Krishna
"

Written for the 'One Word Poem' contest -- the word given, perhaps obviously, was 'jaded.'

"
Were that I merely a cynical man,
a lack of hope to everything did span,
to see the worst in all cases,
instead of but certain situations one faces.

But, alas, not as such were things meant to be,
for it is only when a new patient I see,
that all hope for their well being flees my soul,
day after day, certainly does take its toll.

It's not that I want to, surely I don't,
my mind gives not that choice, no it won't.
So as the patient in my office does sit,
my mind to me does say: 'they won't make it.'

To be optimistic, anything I would have traded,
for a tragedy it is, a pedes oncologist so jaded.

A job I wouldn't want, but very much needed. Sometimes all you can do is add a bit of comfort in words. compassion...excellent write

First I'd like to give you a little criticism. In the first line, it would be better without the "it" and much more grammatically correct. I also didn't like the use of "'stead" it felt out of place and slightly immature. Several of the grammatical choices of this piece really didn't feel right to read and turned me off of the content of the poem. I'm sure you had an interesting concept within this poem.
