Die Vyfde Vers

In Afrikaans, and sadly won't work in any other language. It is an extension to the original South African National Anthem "Die Stem" by CJ Langenhoven, applicable to our circumstances today.

Uit die put van ons ellende

En die diepte van ons smart

Met ons swaar geboë skouers

Oor ons uitgedeelde land

Hoor ons steeds die helder roepstem

Van ons land Suid-Afrika

Sal jy lewe sal jy sterwe?

Sal jy offer wat ek vra?

Sonder twyfel in ons harte

Sê ons altyd dadelik "Ja"

Ons verlede en ons toekoms

Is in ons land Suid-Afrika

"Die Vyfde Vers" literally means "The Fifth Verse" as an extension to the original South African National Anthem's four verses. I will not presume to compare myself to the great Langenhoven, but this verse came to me, and I wrote it in 2011, before I ever knew that this forum existed. If necessary, I can provide the original verses, and attempt to translate this into English.
