Misery Loves Company

Misery Loves Company

A Poem by Brandon Taylor-Black

Hell fires are burning
In the lair of the man
Earth is split open
By the greed of the worm
Thriving in darkness
Like the empire of bats
We descend into oblivion
With the skulls and the rats

The bitterness is seeping
From the container that I built
I feel it slowly creeping
Into each and every pore
The anger that it's driving
Like a fastback '68
Has left me quietly seething
Behind the smiles, fake
I see the bones abreaking
I see the blood aflowing
I see the grave, I see the place
You shall soon be going

In agony I'm thriving
In pain I found my peace
Misery loves company
It found me on my knees
In solitude, I'm happiest
Away from the maddening crowd
They bring only despair
And I'm fresh out of giving a damn...

Your first stanza really drew me in. I liked the rhythm and fast flow of this narrative. . A good read. Last stanza, may be a typo : Misery lives company.

Nicely composed.
