Sweet Goodbye

Sweet Goodbye

A Poem by K.m Smith

Your eyes were wide with worry

& darkened by disappointment

as I watched your heart

dangling delicately,

beating with the rise & fall of my breath.

& in that moment,

when the world seemed to have stopped spinning

& light fled in fear

it could've been mistaken for lust, you see

or maybe even love.

The seductive nature of evil often blinds,

even as it draws you near.

You gave in so easily

You saw it all so clear

& As I wrapped my hand around that heart

I could swear I heard you sigh.

It echoed all around me

A whisper,

sweet goodbye
