Watch Me

Watch me fall apart and be burnt into black fiery ash

Watch me crumble to pieces that can't be put back into place like a jigsaw puzzle

Watch me turn against all I have known and love, walking into the unknown with certainty

Watch my dreams grow and prosper like flowers in a verdant, lush field

Watch me take my rightful place in this world and accept my destined path

Watch my regrets and my apologies for my mistakes, whether or not they are accepted

Watch my efforts, attempts, and how I have failed; learn from my erroneous actions

Watch my soul last and linger amongst humankind until it is my turn to drift into the heavens

And finally, just keep watching me, because I'm determined not to be forgotten.

Cool sort of phoenix imagery, rising reborn from the ashes to live again. Also, tapping into that universal desire for immortality, to have something of yourself go on forever even if it's just a memory, adds a tragic heroism to the poem. The image I have is of someone fighting to stop the sunset. You have to admire the attempt.
