Her

Her

A Story by Dixie Slaughter

He's holding her tight. He feels so warm and safe. She closes her eyes for a moment. When she opens them he is no longer dashing and handsome, but terrifying. His touch burns her leaving marks he calls symbols of affection. She can't move, she's stuck. He leans in to kiss her and his lips have poison on them, it hurts her. He hurts her. He whispers, "I love you." The words violently thump against her eardrum, and she wants to cry. He tells her these things, but she knows they are all lies. Why doesn't she leave? Why is she trapped? Because love binds her to him, never allowing her to be,
her.
