Gunpowder and OrchidsA Poem by dramaminededicated to the 49 victims of the Orlando Pulse nightclub shooting
The bullets dance across my back,
The guns hide behind my teeth, They pressed my name on a shiny new plaque, Along with the jagged bodies that can't breathe. Their eyes are too vacant to see, Far too numb to be shocked, Automatic flares go off every other week, While the families are left to rot. Outrage spreads for a day then stops, When the headlines say it's okay, And our fear sleeps in the alleyways, Until the headlines flash red, And another 49 lie dead. Love was coated with dust, Their safety soaked in rust. People gather and mourn, While mothers and fathers are left scorned. Hatred flowing through innocent blood, Humanity lost in the bullets flood.
