living

A Poem by DiskartetHaraya
"

a poem for all souls

"

On fresh grass

he wants to sit

upon his grandfather’s back

feeling the wind

smelling its scent

coolness of the air

and glowing wax

when the fire has burned

when the wick can no longer shorten

when the evening is drawing to a close

white shirts so solemn

living with the ghosts

I have never gone to the cemetery during the day itself of All Soul's. Not close to many people much less the deceased, I didn't get to visit graves often either. But recently I went with some relatives for a family member's anniversary and I found the setting very solemn and peaceful. The kind that you wish you'd get more of before you're finally laid to rest and cannot feel it physically anymore. Part of me wondered whether I ought to have been ashamed to think of it that way. Hence I likened myself to an inexperienced young boy in wonder of the cemetery. You'd think the place and day was for the dead, but my personal belief is that it does little wonders for the living.

Very somber. This poem is short but it packs a bunch. The beginning is sweet and pleasant, and then the ending is hard hitting.

Hiraya or haraya? Whichever, I need to get myself a Filipino dictionary. The word means imagination, while the other word (diskarte) has something to do with street smarts or being business-minded.. more..
