Let us have hopeA Chapter by Disabled ChessieThis chapter has a rise and fall of events. If I told you anymore it would just spoil the story. :PIt was snowing lightly as the male twin, Sasuke looked out his window. There was no expression on his face as he kept his kitty hood over his head. Dark thoughts were going through his mind that his sister could sense as she came over to him and sighed. Sayuri was his younger twin sister, born five minutes after him. The two of them were able to read each others thoughts and know what each twin went through. Both twins were seen as one, not two, but one and everything they did always involved both of them.
When they got in trouble, both twins got abused and not one or the other. This year was normally a special year for kids like them, fourteen years old and happy about the school holidays. Sayuri and Sasuke were feeling the opposite of that since this meant they would be putting up an act just to make everyone else see them as a perfect family. It was the exact opposite of this when both twins were abused by their parents and considered mistakes. No one ever wanted one female twin and one male twin but either or.
“You know what I wish?” Sasuke looked at his sister as she met his eyes but couldn't smile. “I want a better life.” He sighed as he flicked the screen and watched some of the snow fall. The chill of cold snowy air didn't bother him or his sister in the slightest. Both twins were obsessed with anything that resulted in death since no one cared about them. “If it wasn't for your best friend Kaimu keeping us alive... do you think we would be better off dead?” Sasuke had no expression when he asked her this.
“We've always been better off as dead.” Sayuri looked away as he stared back out the window. “I wonder if Santa will come this year.” She tried to smile a little even though her hopes would just go down as always.
“Please... Santa Claus? I keep telling you he doesn't exist.” Sasuke sighed as he rubbed his runny nose. “I mean if he really existed then he would have gotten us out of this hellhole we live in.” He noticed the tears falling from his sister's eyes. “I'm sorry, okay? But I don't want you to get hurt by this. You cry every Christmas when Santa doesn't come.” Sasuke hugged his sister as she hugged him back.
“I know its stupid... isn't it? It's stupid to believe in fairy tales and stories that I wish had existed...” Sayuri sobbed more as she rubbed the tears from her eyes.
The twins father came upstairs seeing the window up and grabbed both of their arms. There was rage filling his eyes as the twins just stared at him without any real expression. It was as if they knew what was coming when their father pushed them to the floor with an angry force and slammed down the window. Their father decided to grab Sayuri's wrist almost twisting it when it cracked and kicking his boot into Sasuke's side until it was badly bruised and scraped.
“I told you to keep the damn window down...” Their father's voice echoed their ears as they looked away from his eyes. They knew better to give into his anger and chose to look away. “If that window goes up one more time you won't be getting anything to eat all day.” He didn't care about the pain they were in and almost seemed to take pleasure in it.
The twin's lay in silent agony as their father slammed their door and locked it. Neither of them were allowed to leave the bedroom unless they were told. Often times the twins would go without food for the night or even all day because they were forgotten. This was always normal for them and didn't seem to cause them to panic. Nothing came to a surprise to them when they grew up being treated this way.
“Ow... why did he have to kick my side?” Sasuke let the tears roll down his cheeks as he unzipped his hoodie; revealing his skinny abs and scrawny arms. “That looks really bad...” He couldn't touch it without there being more agonizing pain.
Sayuri grabbed her brother's swiss army knife and placed it against her neck after the tears streamed down her face. It didn't matter to her whether she died or not as long as she could put an end to the pain she suffered day after day. Sasuke took the knife from her and tried to wipe away her tears; fixing her dislocated wrist.
“Stop it, Sayu-chan... I need you... and so does Kaimu.” Sasuke wiped the tears from her eyes as she shook her head. “You told me that you love Kaimu... after what happened with your last crush... you said Kaimu was your first love.” He knew that the two of them haven't been in a relationship yet. “I don't think you should end it now when you are so close to him. I'm pretty sure he cares about you and would be devastated if you left this world... just as much as I would be.” Sasuke kept holding her close until she finally nodded.
“You're right... we need to try to be strong.” Sayuri wiped her tears and looked out the window again. “I wonder how many times we've wished for the same thing... and to only have our hopes be destroyed. Do you think this year will be different, Sasu-kun?” She turned to look at her brother with her usual fake smile hiding the tears falling down her cheeks.
“Let's just keep hoping things will look up for us.” Sasuke nodded as he pulled his sister close and wiped her tears.
The next morning, both twins realized they forget to finish their homework. This had angered their teacher as they were sent outside after being scolded. Their grades kept slipping from stress and constant abuse yet no one wanted to help them. Both twins had learning delays that made it harder for them to do any of their work. It didn't seem to bother them to have to suffer at this point.
Kaimu smiled as he sat next to Sayuri on the bench; both of them in silence as they blushed and looked away. Things had been really awkward for the both of them as new feelings developed between them. Sayuri started crying as she clung to his arm and placed her head on his shoulder; causing him to wrap his arms around her and pull her close.
“Please don't cry.” Kaimu lifted her chin and moved his lips closer to hers; closing his eyes and tilting his head in the opposite direction of hers. Tears fell from her eyes as he finally pressed his lips against hers; pulling them away and wiping her tears. Kaimu kissed her again until she smiled and started blushing. “I think I felt a spark, did you?” He chuckled as he stroked her cheek with his thumb.
“I don't know if we can be together... you know how my parents are.” Sayuri looked away when he shook his head.
“Who cares? We both care about each other, Sayuri. We are meant to be together and I want to be here for you because I... I love you...” Kaimu bit his lip and looked away while his cheeks turned a bright red. “I've always loved you and I want to take care of you. I told my brother about you and he is willing to take care of you and Sasuke.” He smiled when she looked at him and gasped. “My brother says that he grew up with you two and he wants to take care of you again.” Kaimu nuzzled his nose with hers and kissed her once more.
“I love you too... I've always... loved you...” Sayuri felt her heart hammering her chest and returned his kiss with a deeper one. “Please let me and Sasuke stay with you so we can get away from our abusive parents!” She let the tears fall as she sobbed into his chest. “We can't take it anymore and... and I almost... killed myself... I almost ended it...” Sayuri continued sobbing until he held her in a comforting embrace.
“Shhh... I promise I will take care of you and your fragile heart.” Kaimu nodded as he lifted her chin and kissed her. “I promise I will love you for always and make sure nobody ever hurts you, okay? You are my love and I will do anything to make you happy.” He smiled as he kissed her forehead while holding her waist.
After school, Sayuri and Kaimu held each others hands as they walked down the hall. This made Sasuke smile as he finally realized his sister was happy; even feeling her happiness made him smile. Sasuke hoped he would find love like that but didn't count on it since love was just bad luck for him.
The twins felt safer being away from their abusive parents when they stayed with Kusagi. It was the same person who had grown up with them and promised to take care of them. Kusagi was a good person and always wanted to look out for the twins. Things were only about to get worse for them when their parents realized they were gone. © 2011 Disabled ChessieAuthor's Note
