Up a Tree with No Paddle

Up a Tree with No Paddle

A Story by Dirk Cjelli
"

(Very) Short story of a quiet adventure in a tiny village up a big sticky tree.

"

"Do you trust yourself?" Selina challenged me

"Yeah, or course. I went climbing in Würzburg for my brother's birthday."

It been a lot of fun, although I had  had a  harness. Selina climbed over me, and I followed, carefully copying her path.

The bark was wonderfully rough against the soft inexperienced skin of my hands. Pine pitch made my palm sticky.

"You can sit here, the branch is sturdy. Best view in the house."

I carefully moved myself up to the branch and tried to get comfortable. I didn't see much. A dirt road along the huge field of grass, disappearing into nowhere. It was warm and the tree smelled like Wisconsin. My chest itched a bit from fresh sunburn, the first of the spring and the first of many to come.
