Ruler of a Glass BoxA Poem by Luis GabrielA poem written in the pantoum form.Ruler of a Glass Box by Luis Gabriel
I ruled the world in a glass box Slowly I tumbled until I came to a stop I looked up, I began to believe, I rose Justice had no price nor pride And leaves no bounty was the lesson That spoke from my tumbling fall
I learned wisdom from my painful fall Learned that not all revolved around my glass box Life’s tsunami, raining thunder taught me this lesson There is a time for all things, but first I stopped Sat, and realized that I had to let go of my pride I looked up, I began to believe, I rose
I looked up, I began to believe, I rose Inner thunder stopped and the rain ceased to fall Once I let the monster die; pride I stepped out, I broke it, I shattered the glass box Time took time for me, coming to a stop Teaching me that thought was best, another lesson
Teaching me that thought was best, another lesson I looked up, I began to believe, I rose I searched for answers until my search came to a stop I looked for wisdom and courage to continue after the fall After the shattering of my former prison, the glass box After the death of my hulking cell guard; pride.
After the death of my hulking cell guard; pride Courage was the new strength needed, the new lesson To be learned, to explore the world outside the glass box I looked, I began to believe, I rose And learned that courage was gentle like leaves in the fall It rained down gently with a determination that never stops
It rained down gently with a determination that never stops Upon the rocks broke my foolish, stupid pride Cracking open to reveal a new light, hope after the fall A light that shined teaching me another, brand new lesson I looked up, I began to believe, I rose From the shards, I was born free, free of a glass box
Free of a glass box, I stumbled to a stop and I rose, to hold me back there was no pride As I went I learned lessons, learning always from the fall © 2008 Luis Gabriel |
