The End

The End

A Poem by J.M. Walsh

Tell me where it begins,
Because we know how this ends,
Did it start by the eyes -
Or with the ears, when words
Flew on silver wings?
Or was it before us, long ago
In the days before we were here,
Before we had bodies and souls
And we could think -
Tell me then what were we,
And were we then condemned
To how this ends , because
I was born and so were you,
And with me was born
A passion for you so great,
It would consume my life -
So tell me then,
When did it begin, because
It was always there, and
If you say it was before me -
Well time cannot hold it,
The end may condemn us to nothing,
But that is what we were before,
And we know how it ends,
Yet if it didn’t begin…
Then it does not end.

I think this was penned with great effect. I admire powerful writing with a not-so-fancy lexicon..

you have very clearly depicted the end in mind with very simple yet lucid way. It doesn't make you reach for a dictionary to understand your poem. Great write:)
