For P.J.W., Beside You

For P.J.W., Beside You

A Poem by J.M. Walsh

I know you lay there sleeping gently,

Moonlight resting on your weary head,

As life gives you her last sweet kisses,

Which you’ve held so dear in your romance;

Sorry to leave who you’ve loved so much,

And with whom you’ve touched all of us,

Graced with cheer and held once young;

And if I could give my life to you,

So you can live and love and laugh,

And dance with your old sweet romance,

I’d take your death and call it my own.

I assume it is to one person, but the flow opens the reader to many other views, love the structure and wording, some edits may be needed.

I see here an expression of true love; the kind that you'd die for. A sad scene, but at the time, a beautiful one.

That was beautifully put. It reminded me of a loved one I lost and really made me connect with the emotion of this poem. I was caught by the lyrical quality of the poem, the way it moved, like the dance mentioned. And the love is so profound. Truly rouching. I very much enjoyed this poem. Thank you for sharing.
