Midnight Rover

Midnight Rover

A Poem by Dindella

It’s the midnight rover and it’s already over,

Carry all the children to bed.

It’s the midnight rover and it’s already over,

All of the people are dead.

The ghosts they came to haunt at last,

Their spirits never free,

But they never forget what the living bury in the past.

Oh deary me, oh deary me,

The ghosts have come to play.

Don’t stay, don’t stay, you don’t want to play,

With the whispers in your ears.

Don’t stay, don’t stay, they’re not here to play

They’re here to set you free.

The dead don’t dread and they never dwell,

Unlike you and me.

The dead, I dread, they never tell

Of what you’ll never see, my dear.

Go to bed, go to bed,

At last your terrors have come alive, don’t fear,

You’ll be dead, you’ll be dead.

It’s the midnight rover and it’s already over,

Carry all the children to bed.

It’s the midnight rover and it’s already over,

All of the people are dead.

Author's Note

Dindella
I will almost never explain what my poetry means, since I don't want you to follow my meaning of it. The meaning is entirely up to you and I'd love to hear what your translation is, why it means something to you or why it doesn't. The more in-depth the better, but that doesn't mean you have to write something really long and depthy if you don't want to. I appreciate any and all reviews. <3
