Prisoner of War

Prisoner of War

A Story by Dina

I wanted a friend
But she had a gun behind her back
Tied to a man
I've never even met
And she knew things about him
That I've never even learnt
Said she wants to wear designer too
Said she doesn't want to work

My life has become a bit comical
I'm enslaved and stuck between men at war
Ironically, I have no clue what they're Fighting for
But each day, I walk out the door
And an idea pops to mind
A poem, a song, or perhaps a sign

And I dodge the explosives
And sneak around the chain of command
To smell the roses
And hold a kittens hand

I am a prisoner of war.
And I don't know what they're fighting for
Some are late on the rent
Others don't like their paychecks
So they subject me to a bag
And I have yet to check the tag

With the way that they're moving
I guess there's something worth losing
To get to the end goal
Fire in the hole
I don't know
I have people creeping around my home
Sticking their faces through the door when I'm asleep
Trying to see if it's the best time to get to me

And it feels like some kind of lore
Because I have no clue what they're fighting for
I have no clue what they're working towards
I think it's time to sound the horn
