Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

Chapter 8

"Mama, Pauly is at the door for you! You gonna keep her waiting?" 

 My best friend has come to do an unofficial wellness check. At this point, I'm worried the whole town will think I came down with Influenza. 

Begrudgingly, I roll out of bed and throw a sweater on before greeting her at the door. She's full of energy as soon as it opens.

 "B***h! I thought you died!" She says, with the biggest grin on her face. Her brutal honesty is one of my favorite qualities. 

I chuckle before opening the door wider to let her in.

"Nah, I'm not going in there. You know your crazy mom doesn't like me." I chuckle before gazing back, making sure my parents didn't hear.

"Dude, just come on! I have liquor!"

I hesitate and look to the side.

"Oh quit it already! You know you wanna!" She leans forward and tilts her radiator glasses down a bit. Looking at me the way perverted old men check out teenage girls. 

"You are Asian persuasion after all." I pause before committing. "Hold on, let me just go tell my parents."

I run up the stairs to inform my parents of my departure. They seem happy that I'm getting out the house.

 "Okay honey, have fun! Be safe!" They respond enthusiastically. I kiss them both on the cheek before running down the stairs and meeting Pauly in her two doorer.

"Alrighty! Next stop, the North Pole!" She chants while throwing her hands in the air like she's on a rollercoaster.

She takes off with speed and the engine leaves a trace of noise behind in the neighborhood. The older lady from across the street peaks out the blinds with her dog in hand, squinting and shaking her head judgmentally.
