A Chapter by Miss Evans

Beautiful

We’re all beautiful,

They say,

But we all know it’s a lie.

One thing is cool today,

But out tomorrow,

Just like sometimes I’m filled with joy,

And others with sorrow,

It’s hard, knowing who we really are.

And maybe someday they’ll see the real me,

The one I see staring back in the mirrors.

Sure I’m weird, but that’s alright,

Maybe I’ll scream karaoke all night,

That’s just me. The real me.

We’re the ones they say are insecure,

They say we don’t know what it’s for,

But you know, and I know, they’re just putting on a show.

Because they think they’re beautiful,

They know they lie to us,

They push us back and fall in the dust,

But someday we’ll be up there,

Looking down.

Maybe someday, the real us will be okay.

Maybe we’ll be the cool kids,

Looking down at the cruel kids,

From our spot on the clouds.

It’s alright to be different,

It’s alright to be you,

I don’t’ care what they say,

Cuz none of it’s true,

I am me, you are you,

We are us.

And that’s how it’s meant to be.

You know you’re beautiful,

Just like me.

Untitled

I am unsure,

If I really want to care anymore.

Is it just me,

Or does everyone get these feelings?

Like I’m a little worthless,

And a lot ugly,

Maybe it’s just a phase of insecurity,

But it’s my heart,

And it aches with every breath that I take.

I am hopeless,

Wandering lost in a world of fears.

Is there no light,

Or have I just lost my sense of sight?

Like I’m in a never-ending tunnel,

It’s only me,

Maybe this is just a phase of insecurity,

And my heart,

It aches with every step that I take.

I am growing,

Trying to make my way in the world.

Is it a waste,

Or do I really have a place here?

Everyday’s a challenge,

But it’s okay,

I think I’ll do something a little different today,

I’ll just smile.

Be happy for a while.

I am a person,

And I’m trying to figure this out.

Maybe someday,

I’ll get rid of all this insecurity.

Be a little more confident,

A lot more secure,

Smile and be happy, genuinely,

It’ll be my life,

And it’s worth the wait.
