American

A Chapter by Miss Evans
"

A poem that I wrote for my American Literature class, discussing the Power of Language, and including a bit of History in it.

"
American

I am American,
and this is my country.

I am black,
but I am not African.

I am female,
but I am not fragile.

Like Rosa I refuse to sit in the back,
or stay silent while I am attacked.

And like Dr. King,
I will always have a dream.

I am not less than the White Man,
and I belong here.

We are the Melting Pot,
and racist we are not.

Black, White, Yellow, and Red,
All equal, like our founders said.

I am American.
This is my country.

Author's Note

Miss Evans
As always, I do appreciate reviews and comments.

"White Man" was not used to offend. In the past (history-wise) that is what Caucasian people were known as, especially by Black people in America. That is why it is capitalized.

Hey Teralyn, I enjoyed your poem! It shows history, but it was like you put yourself in it. Good job! :)
