Thousand YearsA Poem by Dilshan SenaratneHave you lain in wait, with wolves who eyed you, lust in their eyes? Have you waited in wait, have you waited in vain for a hero to come? Are these your skies filled with the smoke of grief and love, lost in time? How long have you waited, how long more will you wait?
Did you swim in these waters made murky with love gone astray? How deep would you have drowned before you too were a detail? Didn't you know, that the stars are where you belong? That comets race shooting stars to find you first...
Have you seen the cities burn with the lights of a sinful night? Did they try set you on fire with promises that you'll burn bright? Were you staring into the distance let down by their charms? Didn't you know, the stars were looking out for you?
Were yours the hopes that crumbled and fell away? Were yours the tears that flooded the legions of heaven? Were you the one gazing the sky with tears in your eyes? How could you have fallen so far away from grace?
Have you heard the music, so loud in the air? Did you drown the sorrow and turn a deaf ear? Didn't you know, that the ocean sings for you? That I have been here waiting for you?
Didn't you know, yours is the kingdom of the sky? Didn't you know, the stars were yours to defy? Weren't you afraid, so far away from home? How long have you lay in wait for a hero to come?
I have loved you for a thousand years I have loved you till kingdom come I will hoist you where the skies lay claim To the thrones of heaven and times of despair Dress the night sky with the smile you adorn Sirius is only a diamond in your hair..
Yours is the sky, king of the sun, I adore And I will love you for a thousand more. © 2014 Dilshan Senaratne |
