Simple Seconds

Simple Seconds

A Poem by Emma DeBoer
"

Written in 2010

"
He limps across the empty ballroom.
His lip is bleeding.
His mind is racing.
The world is spinning.
He remembers.
A faint dream from his childhood.
Or perhaps...
A dying memory.
As he limps,
He feels a brush of wind sting his shoulder.
The porcelain tiled floors lead to
An old forgotten bar.
The man drags himself over
And takes a seat on a stool.
A sigh pours out of him.
The man closes his eyes for a simple second.
He sees her.
She smiles in the sunlight with her golden hair.
Her perfect eyes.
She's drenched in lies all the way to her core.
His eyes open.
He sees a silhouette approaching.
as it nears,
He notices it's not a silhouette
At all!
She's covered in blood, wounds, and grief.
The truth is there.
She coughs out the words,
"You did this."
Then,
Within simple seconds,
She is gone.
