Death before Life

Death before Life

A Poem by Emma DeBoer
"

Written in 2010

"
Seven years
He sat there.
Seven years
He waited.
Sending letters
Just to be burnt.
Making phone calls
Just to be hung up on.
He had hope.
He held regret.
All the guilt
Boiled inside him.
Images of crude humor
Were carried in his dreams.
Seven DAMN years.
Finally he was free.
He stepped out into the world.
Felt the brusque air in his shirt.
Suddenly, it hit him.
"I'll never see her again."
