ShoeA Poem by Emma DeBoerWritten in 2010
They sit on the front porch
A father and his daughter. He teaches her to tie her shoe. Loop. Under. Pull. "It's simple." He says with a grin. She ties her shoe with ease. They both smile, and giggle. Their eyes meet. Both blue as the sea. He runs his thumb on her cheek and says, "I'll never leave you." She blushes as he kisses her forehead. Seven years later, She sits on her porch & ties her shoe. The day of her father's funeral. Loop. Under. Pull. As she pulls the lace, She says to herself, "It's simple... I'll never leave you." © 2013 Emma DeBoerReviews
