DreamBoat

DreamBoat

A Poem by Emma DeBoer
"

Written in 2010

"
The DreamBoat slowly passes by the dock
As you sit at the edge of the pier,
Head down, bare feet in the water.
Several beautiful people board the DreamBoat.
They ask you to come along.
However, you deny their request.
You watch the DreamBoat move on.
From afar, you see all the people
With smiles on their faces.
They're off in the ocean,
Having the time of their life.
Regret fills your system.
You should have boarded when you had the chance.
You jump into the water,
Pumping your feet.
Your strength is at its highest.
After minutes of swimming,
You're finally there.
The boat is at anchor.
You ask, "May I join you?"
The captain smiles bleakly and replies,
"You had your chance!"
You see no lie in his face.
The DreamBoat hadn't been what you thought.
People aboard are selfish and cruel.
They will not accept outsiders, like you and I.
So move on.
Be what you came in this world for.

I like this. I liked the notion that the popular and the pleasant aren't always as they seem. It's a good lesson to heed.
