AUGUST IS HERE

AUGUST IS HERE

A Poem by Digvijay Singh
"

Long distance love

"

May that you promised
has gone up in my calendar
I keep rewinding us from our
march confab oftentimes
Yes! I do remember your
hairs exactly as they are.
Your eyes must still be brown.
Do you still tiptoe to the
song that played in the bar?
The gig we planned to
be at together was last month.
We missed July's downpour too.
...
I'm turning the page to August
and May that you promised
has gone up in my calendar

This year is really flying by. Soon the kids will be going back to school, and temperatures will be falling as thermostats rise. Then comes the avalanche of holidays, of which I look forward to every year. But there are months on my calendar that stand out among the others. And the imprint of days are indelible upon my heart.

Great piece! It has got me thinking about some things, I always see that as a mark of greatness: making people think. Isn't it interesting that as I read this in 2020 it seems like it's talking about a relationship amidst the pandemic? Believe what you will, and know that people are always in need of meaningful relationships. Long-distance relationships at any time in history are difficult, and now we're able to stay connected virtually. But the virtual relationship situation strains our emotional and physical aspects of our lives. Sorry if this review isn't helpful...it's about 2am and I'm normally asleep by 9pm...mostly because I can't see my mom or get ahold of her to share what's been going on in our lives.

Your poem gives me the impression that the months are flying by, but these two are not finding the time to get together in person (which is so true-to-life for so many online friendships & relationships). The line: "your eyes must still be brown" is very telling . . . it feels like a flippant way of saying: EVEN THO I'VE NEVER ACTUALLY SEEN YOUR EYES IN PERSON!!!! I can feel this guy getting a little impatient to have this move from online to in-the-flesh! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
